Last May Monday

May has been a cold witch. The warmth is finally beginning to show through! I made a very bold decision to put away the winter clothes yesterday...I'm still wearing the few I left out..but this morning was very warm..I might move down to a t-shirt.

Last faves of May!

Space bags - they just vacuum up and save SO much space! • Coffee creamers - coffee makes me ill, but these creamers are soooo goood • David's new bike - he looks awesome on it and it's MEC so it will last forever! • Spring cleaning • my growing garden • that I'm still working hockey in June..AGAIN! • That my sister loves her new iPhone • I finally started up a book club • Getting really plugged in and involved at church • Signing up for runs that are months away but still get me excited! • Clearly Contacts - so cheap! My insurance can actually cover my glasses (when they aren't free!) • Ducklings

My amazing view of all the games

This was my view right after they won the western conference. Because I stand right behind the home next, I had the perfect view of the Burrows round 1 winning goal and of the conference winning goal. I recall vividly (as might the host who stands with me) seeing Niemi looking around lost after the puck bounced off Sedin's head, and yelling "He doesn't know where it is! He doesn't know!!" I'd say Bieksa heard me cause boom. Goal. Make sure you check out this hilarious vid

I leave you with Monday's cuteness

They're all best friends...when she isn't trying to eat them!

Garden Fridays!

yes OK, perhaps today is Saturday...but I just thought it up so today is the first post...albeit delayed!

So the garden is going well I think...thing are definitely growing!! I also have plans to add more things, I just have to get to the store and get some more soil.

These are the very first of the sunflowers! Little sprouts

If you can see the little greens, those are the beans!

The grapes have what appears to be a flower forming

Very hard to see but TINY little chive buds!

The tomato plant is growing,  along with the broccoli!

Our Christmas tree is FINALLY regrowing!

The spinach and the lettuce

We actually had our salad with dinner tonight from the garden! The lettuce and spinach was amazing! I'm so happy to be able to just step outside my door and harvest! I can't wait for everything else to grow

I have to get out and get the planters for the peppers and cherry tomatoes. At the end of the summer we are going to have such an amazing salad!

Victoria Day Monday!

I have to wonder why anyone would believe Harold Camping and his bogus end of the world prediction.

First off. The "math" used to determine the date is RIDICULOUS. It's basically the equivalent of me going "2x2 is 4!? That's how long it's been since I stood up! We're doomed!"

This is the math he used

"The date of the crucifixion is itself somewhat uncertain, but Camping takes it to be April 1 in 33 AD. Come May 21, 2011, Camping says, 722,500 days will have elapsed since that occurrence. And 722,500 is (5 x 10 x 17) x (5 x 10 x 17). Those numbers are important, according to Camping, because 5 symbolizes atonement, 10 represents completeness, and 17 is for heaven. "

What...?  Does that make any sense to anyone else? No? Thought so. (more break down of the maniac math here)

So why on earth would ANYONE believe and follow a man who was wrong in 1994, and clearly had a vivid imagination about mathematics? I know these people feel so foolish now for giving up everything they had to parade around the USA proclaiming the end of days...here's a newsflash for you people...don't follow a crazy old man claiming to know when the end is. Why are you believing in some plain old earthly man? You are supposed to follow and believe in God. That is IT. By believing Captain Coot over there, you're going against everything you're supposed to beleive in. And giving the rest of us a really bad name. Get your priorities in order.

Time for some levity

The weather is being bipolar again...It was amazing Thursday and Friday, then terrible Saturday and mild yesterday...who knows what today will bring. JUST PICK ONE! It's impossible to put away the winter wardrobe! Long sleeves and pants on the end side of May!? Unacceptable.

It's a holiday Monday today. Not that that means anything to me. Apparently people still watch the news on a holiday? (No...they sleep in..but whatever) I don't think I'll ever have a job where a holiday means a day off for me! Oh well...I'll take the extra pay!

When I was growing up they used to have fireworks on Victoria day...they don't do that here :( I love fireworks! So much fun and so pretty! There are not enough fireworks in a year.
I managed to sneak off to IKEA this weekend...I love IKEA..I love it more when I go shopping there by myself! Teehee!

Wrapping up today's post is!

My Monday Faves!

IKEA • Holidays (the bus is cheaper!) • My pillow • biking around town • eating from my own garden! • Scrabble type games (even though I'm awful) • Canucks Team store staff (SO AMAZING) • Having friends in good places • Dairy Queen • Drinking Happy Birds • More hockey games! • discovering new areas of the city • crisp clear days that let me see the mountains • going skiing in May/June •

I leave you with what is basically me when it comes to drinking birds. I love them...they are up there with lava lamps.

What we did....

I had a VERY jam packed Saturday. To be honest, I'm still sore from all the work.

When we moved to our new place we noticed there was a garden of sorts in the backyard...I say of sorts because someone definitely gave up on it a LONG time ago. I failed to take any sort of before photo (duh...) but found this on Google Maps.

Overgrown mess!

It was slightly worse than that because that photo is from 2009. So a couple more years of neglect and you get what we were working with.

After tearing out all the junk!

After a DAY of tearing apart and pruning and planting and a big fun trip to Home Hardware....we created the most amazing beautiful patio...MUCH better than my attempt last year (which the end result was DEATH). Notice the lilac bush! It has always been my DREAM to have a lilac bush, and now I have one right in my backyard!!!! If only they were year round :(

Tada!!

I'm beyond grateful to the help from Jill and Devon (who makes a cameo in the first photo). Jill works as a gardener and just as a plethora of information in her head. She can just look at a plant and know what it is, how to grow it, where it likes to be, etc. My garden is definitely going to be a success this year.

Here are beans and grapes! I had no idea I could grow grapes at home!

This is the vegetable patch. Spinach, lettuce, broccoli, onions, tomatos, some herbs and strawberries! And garlic for next year.

Just some pretty planters with various flowers. To the left I planted sunflowers!

I'm so excited to make a salad our of everything in this garden. I also can't wait to have friends over to enjoy our new fancy patio! Yes...it's technically a driveway...but we don't have a car so we've claimed it as our patio! If the weather EVER nices up, we'll set up the table and have BBQs and other exciting things. I want to try to get some more patio type lights so we can dine under it all. I'm thinking of finding some white Christmas lights and stringing them through the trees and such. We shall see what lights I can find in May :/

Halfway through May!

Time is just flying by! I blame the playoffs. I'm all consumed!

The weather continues to just be awful...I don't know the last time it was May and I was still in my winter wardrobe....It's getting ridiculous!

I have some exciting posts planned for the next few days. So barring some awful busy-ness (which most of my evenings are) then I shall put them up!

But to tide you over!

FAVES

Playoff hockey!! (I can never say that enough) • finishing big projects • getting back into shape • EP!C, the sustainable expo. It was so much fun • My new curling wand that actually curls my hair! • Netflix • The Green Men • Canucks Cookies • Northern fur seals! • The Lonely Island

I've followed the Lonely Island for several years now, before SNL and all that. I don't much like the newest album. But I do love this.

I leave you with it

May May May

Whoosh..and another month goes by.

Mother's day happened...me mam is in Ontario so I don't get to spend the day pampering her..so I send gifts to do that for me..teehee!

The weather might start getting nice soon. It's been nice one day and crap for two, then nice again. Pick one!

I'm really excited for this weekend. My garden whiz friend is coming over to help me destroy the mess of a garden that currently exists in our backyard and make something amazing. I'm so excited to have space to finally properly grow things...unlike my very failed attempt last year....very very.

I've also devised a new workout schedule. Instead of going home for a nap and then working out, I'm going to go right to the gym after work and THEN nap. (except for probably Mondays....those are the nights I get the worst sleep and am terribly tired in the AM..like right now)

Game 6 tonight...I really really hope it all wraps up....no game 7 again!!

Not having game 7! • gardening • Blizzards • Milkshakes • Sushi • Daisy first thing in the morning • The Green Men • working on knitting/crochet • being a tourist in my own town • fresh sheet day • free time! • Groupon • Clearlycontacts.ca (I got FREE glasses!) • eBay!!!!! • Running (especially now that it is so much easier) • Seeing family on Skype • My sistur!

I think it's supposed to be nice today..sounds like a nice long walk for me and Ms. Daisy! She's just so cute. She makes me soooo happy!

She loves being under the blankets!

I'm back!

I was off sick for a week. Hence no faves last week...nothing was very happy. Except for David taking care of me. That's pretty awesome.

I ran the TC 10K! Even after not having run since the Sun Run and being sick and all asthmatic-y. I was only a couple minutes off my Sun Run time which doesn't make any sense...I'm pretty sure the Sun Run was closer to 11K.....

I got to go to Victoria for the weekend and see some friends. It was very fun, not only to just chill and stay with them, but to have someone to do the run with! Natasha was MUCH faster than I was, but the excitement and heading down with a friend is very nice
Post run stretching! Which I
didn't do enough of.....

So my next run is just a 5k...but I'd like to drop some time off of it. I know it sounds weak, but I'm finding a 10k not all that hard. The Sun Run was my first one and tough because of that...but even being sick the TC 10k just wasn't hard. It was a BEAUTIFUL course and it just went by quickly! Love it. A half marathon might be next!

So May happened?! Time just flies...The sun was out yesterday but is hiding again...What I wouldn't do for two nice days in a row.

However, to cheer me up!

MONDAY FAVES!
Collecting running shirts • visiting friends • the sun! • Post-run feeling greatness! • PVR (mine is broken...I miss it :( ) • My new iPhone • Being talked about on the radio • the truth • Daisy starting to get her training • Twitter (keeps you up to date!)  • finishing crochet projects • starting a new book • crinkle cut french fries • cheese • Chipotle • having my voice back

It was a super busy week last week. This week is a little more chill because the team is on the 2 game away part of the playoffs....so I have some time to rest! Which is good...I have SO much to do around the house. Never a dull moment with me!

How was your weekend?
