It rained all weekend here which left me with no alternative but to treadmill run. I don't much like running on the treadmill...I find I get bored VERY quickly and thus end my run earlier. Sadly my zombie running game doesn't work on the treadmill, even though it claims to. So I ended up just watch TV. Helped pass the time, but I was still super bored so didn't run as long as I had planned. Luckily the weather is warming up again so I'll be back outside later this week
One of the biggest things I am struggling with is actually finding the time to train. Some days are non-stop and I just don't have the time! It's not good for the training that's for sure, but it can't be helped! I can't run before work and I can't run super late at night either. Just gotta make em count when I can I suppose.
I'm finding my 10 and 1's are definitely back to being easy peasy, which is great. Now I just have to make them last for 2 and a half hours....
Me finishing my first triathlon in 2011. It was a short course.
A small break from running info to share that my beloved Zoe passed away on Monday. She was pretty sick and apparently there was nothing that could be done...she's was 15 1/2 years...and she was amazing...I will miss her so much...
I've decided to turn this into a bit of a run blog as I lead up to my Half-marathon on June 24. I'll keep all of you posted on how my training is going along with my fundraising efforts!
Please visit that page if you wish to donate. I'm running with Team Diabetes and I'm really close to my goal! I just need your help!! The deadline is May 18.
In the past the farthest I've ever run is a 10k. I've done three of those so far in my life, and obviously I need to be able to go farther. On the weekend I challenged myself to do just that.
One of my goals for a very long time has been to run False Creek. It was an easier plan when I lived just off the beach in English Bay. However, moving away from there has made the distance longer. So on a gorgeous Saturday I set off from Kitsilano and ran False Creek and home again. A grand total of 12.15k. All this while being chased by zombies!
I run with a game called Zombies, RUN! It's really great interactive running game, where I have to collect supplies for the city I live in during a zombie apocalyspe. The game automatically collects supplies as I run and occasionally I have to sprint away from Zombie Mobs. It's a really great way to become faster and also to just get out there and go as there is an actual storyline that develops the more you run.
So running 12k while being chased by zombies was interesting. You think you're tired and then bam, RUN. I only ran into one mob...but I was going up a hill. I could have out run them! Still bothered by that.
Today I'll head out for another, not sure how long yet. Probably not 12k but still a good distance. I need to make 10k feel as easy as 5k
Here is a photo of me completing the Scotiabank 5k last year. It was actually one of my worse races. I was not happy at ALL.
Well for one I live in an area of Canada that doesn't get much snow. Having grown up in Ontario, I had to wear a jacket over my Halloween costume because that was the first snow of the season. However, in Vancouver, it tends to snow for one week all year. Which is absolutely perfect to me!
2 cm of snow is enough for playing. It's all we get.
Why I love Vancouver Winter:
1. I love the sound of snow crunching under my feet
2. I get to wear my comfy WARM snow boots...Can't wear them in the rain!
3. I have the clothing for the cold. It goes so unused, so I'm happy when I get to bust it out
4. It's actually not that cold. For Vancouver it is, but for me in my life it's not. It's refreshing
5. It's pretty!!!!!
6. Daisy LOVES it, and who doesn't love watching their dog jump all over snow?
Why I don't like Vancouver Winter:
1. No one else knows how to deal with it. They have only rain boots, or (and this drives me into insanity laughter..yes, I'm laughing AT you) they have umbrellas while it's snowing. IT'S SNOW.
2. They can't drive in it. The minute the snow hits the pavement you get this.
And it really doesn't snow more than 2 cm. However, the city has two plows... I think. I've honestly never seen them, and the salt trucks are just pick up trucks with little sprayers on the back (and I've only ever seen 1). The city just isn't made to be able to handle snow and ice, The side streets never get plowed, so the snow just gets compacts and turns into SUPER slippery snow/ice. Awesome.
3. People still bike in it. Now we all know I'm a cyclist, and I'll go out in about anything, but the minute the temperature is below zero FORGET IT. In a city where it rains every other day and the ground doesn't have time to dry, I'd rather not have my face skid along the pavement when my wee ol bike meets Mr. Black Ice. It seems other people in this city don't know what black ice is, so they are out biking at full speed like Joe Invincible, until they fall...and I just shake my head.
"So that's what a moron looks like!"
Now don't get me wrong, this isn't enough to make me want to move back to Ontario. FORget it. My last year there in one day we got 50 cm... IN ONE DAY. It stayed until May. The snow here? It will be gone in two days.
Back to normal :(
Luckily, I can just take a trip up the mountains any time and frolic in the fluffy stuff until I'm sick of it again!
Christmas was amazing. Best one ever I say. Seeing everyone back home was fantastic! We got some pretty sweet gifts too! Like Kobos!! I love it... it's making me read even faster (is that possible!?)
I did the Resolution Run 5k on Jan 1. Set a new PB too! I couldn't believe it. I hadn't run since my freezing wet run in November. So I did something CRAZY and signed up for a half-marathon in June..WHAAAT?! Yes crazy I know, but I need goals to keep me moving. And that much running will definitely require training.
What else....I'm taking a French class again...hopefully this one doesn't get cancelled. I really want to get my language skills back!
I have some fantastic photos from the holidays with everyone so I shall share all those soon. Just a quick update
Ok not really, it's only -1. It's not like it used to be when I lived in Ontario. And not like it is in places like Thunder Bay where I have friends. AND there's no snow :) But I seem to be broken......
A few years ago I lost a ton of weight. Which is awesome! but I lost a lot of insulation as a result of that. Since then, I find I get cold very quickly. This winter, I seem to never be able to warm up. I work in a basement, and at a hockey arena, live on the ground floor of a house that needs all the windows replaced and as a result has a mean draft and lets the heat out, and it's just a different kind of cold here. It's a damp cold...gets right to your bones.
COLD ALL THE TIME.
I'm almost looking forward to going home for Christmas because I can handle Ontario cold. Easy...just gotta get through what is supposed to be the coldest winter in 20 years over here. Yay.
In other news! Netflix has all the original Degrassi's now....so if I don't post...you know why!
I've been just terrible....Every week I meant to update and I just never did!!!
Quick catch up
I won the Low Car Diet!! Yaaay!! Scored a ton of awesome prizes!! Thanks for everyone for voting!
Avery Clara was born September 26 sometime in the wee hours of 4 am or so. She's so freaking adorable and I can't wait to see her again. She looks just like my sister did as a baby. Creepy
It's been getting very cold here. It's such a different cold than home. Brrrr.
We celebrated our one year of being married!! Huzzah! It was awesome.
Daisy is doing fantastic. She's just as adorable as ever and learning new things all the time. I'm so happy every day that we ended up with her.
It's been so long that I can't think of what I'm all missing. So I will just say this. I will update more
